Yin Qi (印奇) is the co-founder and CEO of Megvii, which is short for Megavision. Megvii focuses on independent research and the development of artificial intelligence technologies, using standardized hardware with AI+IoT. The company created Face++, the world’s most advanced facial recognition technology. The technology is used by many of the world’s financial institutions and corporations, including CITC, PingAn Bank, Uber, and Alibaba.
In 2016, Face++ had become the world’s largest cloud platform for facial recognition. The platform received a lot of media attention in 2017, after Alibaba’s Ant Financial Alipay service used it to launch a digital “smile to pay” method.
Qi completed a bachelor’s of engineering in computer science from Tsinghua University before moving to New York City to undertake a PhD. He also worked at Microsoft Research Asia between 2009 and 2011, where he led a facial-recognition project. In 2013, he left his doctoral program to found Megvii with two friends from Tsinghua University, Wenbin Tang and Yang Mu.
In 2016, he was on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 list for entreprise tech in Asia.
