$84.8 Billion Forbes
Since 2000 it is estimated that Warren Buffet — AKA ‘The Wizard of Omaha’ for his unparalleled investment skills — has given away $27 billion of his $85 billion dollar fortune. Born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1930, Buffett is the third-wealthiest man in the world (as of March 2019) and one of its most generous philanthropists.
Buffett is Chairman and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway. Previously a textile company, he assumed control of the organisation in 1965 and has turned it into the worlds largest financial holding company with over $210 Billion in annual revenues.
He is one of the worlds most celebrated philanthropists and has famously pledged to give away 99% of his wealth – with just over 80% being pledged to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
In 2009 alongside Bill Gates, he founded The Giving Pledge, whereby billionaires pledge to give away at least half of their fortunes.
Whilst he is a huge financial contributor, Warren is a relatively hands-off philanthropist choosing to give financial support to good causes he trusts and allow them to allocate the resources in their own way.
