Taavet Hinrikus may still be most renowned for being the first employee at Skype and helping to build an application that is used by hundreds of millions of people all over the world. In his time at the company he worked as the Director of Strategy and covered a variety of roles including product, technology, and business development.
Now his focus has turned to the financial services industry with the development of his company TransferWise, which uses real exchange rates to help people transfer money securely and conveniently but most appealing of all, at a very low cost. Hinrikus realised this service was necessary after how much money him and his co-founder were losing when it was being transferred from London into his partner’s Estonian accounts. He is one of the most recognisable faces in London’s thriving fintech scene.
