Describing himself, serial inventor Stephen Lake says, quite simply: “I like to build things”.
He’s currently co-founder and CEO of North, previously known as Thalmic, where he’s created what has been dubbed ‘the Google Glass that people actually want to wear’. His 500-strong company has been backed by $140m in investment and has created Focals, a new type of Smart Glass designed to look and feel like regular glasses.
Previously the company had created a gesture-based armband, Myo, which announced over $10m in sales and was able to control everything from drones to presentations.
Lake graduated with a degree in Mechatronics Engineering from the University of Waterloo, and in 2011 was named as one of the 36 Canadian undergraduate students that would be the country’s next entrepreneurial leaders.
