Sachin Bansal is an Indian entrepreneur who became the poster-boy of the new age Indian start-ups with his popular venture Flipkart.
The ex-Amazon employee found his e-commerce platform in 2007 with his colleague Binny Bansal (not related) soon after he had quit Amazon. Flipkart rose to up secure millions of dollars in funding from Softbank and Yes Bank.
Sachin Bansal and his business partner Binny Bansal launched Flipkart from an apartment in Bangalore with 4,00,000 rupees ($6,500) in cash. In 2007 during the early days of Flipkart Sachin Bansal and his business partner Binny Bansal used to deliver books across Bengaluru on their scooters and in October 2015 they showed up at the doorsteps of some customers, personally delivering goods in order to gain insights from the online buyers.
Bansal is 65th on Forbe’s 2016 Indian Billionaires List with his net-worth valued at $1.2 billion in March 2016. Bansal gained 23 spots on the Forbes India Rich list from 2015 when he was 86th on the list.
Flipkart was recently acquired by Walmart for $16 Billion in 2018, earning Bansal a sweet $1.6 Billion payout.
