What makes Pearl Thusi a Global Shaker?
Sithembile Xola Pearl Thusi is a South African actress, model, television host, and radio personality. She is known for her portrayal of Patricia Kopong in the BBC/HBO comedy-drama series, The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, Dayana Mampasi in the ABC thriller Quantico and Samkelo in the romantic drama film Catching Feelings. Currently, she stars in the lead role as Queen Sono in the Netflix crime drama series Queen Sono.
The series premiered on 28 February 2020 and in April 2020, the series was renewed by Netflix for a second season.
Life hasn’t always been star-studded spy movies for Thusi. She has spoken publicly about her difficult upbringing, explaining that her mother, who was often abused by her father, died when Thusi was just 14. “I begged my mother to leave till the day she died. In anger I blamed her for staying,” Thusi said at an event hosted by The Mercury newspaper in 2018.
Thusi began performing at a young age, according to an interview with Okay Africa, first as a drum major and then in local pageants. In 2003, she was the runner-up in the Miss Teen South Africa pageant. Only 15 years old, Thusi was the pageant’s youngest contestant.
Thusi is a loving single mother of two. In 2019, she announced that she had adopted a daughter, Okuhlekonke, nicknamed Okuhle.
