What makes Paul Dacre a Global Shaker?

Paul Dacre is the editor of the Daily Mail which played a huge role in setting the Print Media’s agenda on Brexit.

He is a director of the Daily Mail and General Trust plc (Associated Newspapers’ holding group) and was a member of the Press Complaints Commission (PCC) from 1999 to 2008. He left the PCC in order to become chairman of the PCC’s Editors’ Code of Practice Committee from April 2008. His departure from the post was announced at the beginning of December 2016.

The Print Media seemed to be coming close to the days of its imminent demise, but the 2015 general election along with the Brexit showed that having the British tabloid on your side could mean a great deal.

The front pages of the newspaper were covered in headlines such as ‘Lies. Greedy Elites or a great future outside a broken, dying Europe…If you believe in Britain, Vote Leave’, campaigning extensively for Brexit.

Daily Mail consequently made a huge impact on its mostly upper class and middle class, predominantly white voter base, who in turn became the biggest supporter of the Leave cause.

Paul Dacre has maintained an enigmatic image over the years. Called a ‘headstrong leader’ by his lovers and ‘a bully and a hypocrite’ by his critics, he still is one of the longest-serving editors of an English daily newspaper.
