What makes Orit Strauss a Global Shaker?

Orit Strauss is the founder and Chief Executive of Giving Way, an organisation which aims to make it easy to support the causes people care about at home or while travelling abroad.

It works in 133 countries, with just under 6,000 non profits, and more than 58,000 connections.

People choose whether they’re broadly interested in causes by category — people, animals or the environment — and are then able to search and contact non profits and fellow volunteers for no charge.

About half are free and the other half charge nominal fees to cover food and lodging. Activities range from working on an organic farm in Costa Rica to mentoring youth in rural South Africa.

The Giving Way platform is comprised of a global marketplace, connecting organisations with volunteers, donors and supporters, and a CRM suite through which organisations manage their connections.

Strauss actually comes from a legal background. She holds a Bachelor of Laws from Tel Aviv University, and before Giving Way was Attorney in the High Tech Department at Herzog, Fox and Neeman. As a commercial lawyer she specialised in Intellectual Property and Technology Licensing, representing tech companies from early stage startups to multinationals in the software, telecommunication, semiconductor, medical device and biotech industries.

On the Giving Way website, it’s revealed that Strauss’ interest in international volunteering stems from a year she spent volunteering on the Thai-Burma border when she was younger.
