Oliver Robbins was appointed the PM’s special advisor on Europe in 2017. In this role, he will have the responsibility of being the Prime Minister’s EU Sherpa and Coordinator of the negotiations with the European Commission.
He leads a small Europe Unit, based in the Cabinet Office, whose focus will be on working with DEXEU (Department for Exiting the European Union) to develop the overarching approach to the UK’s withdrawal from the EU. Robbins moving from Davis’s office to the Cabinet has been seen as the PM taking control of the Brexit negotiations.
He has numerous years of experience in the Civil Service and has a reputation for establishing effective communication channels between different departments of the government, a skill that will come in handy in his new position.
