Nicolas Dessaigne completed a masters in computer science from ESIEA before following it up with a PhD from Université de Nantes in the same subject. After finishing his education he moved to Tokyo for 18 months where he was a visiting researcher at the National Institute of Informatics focusing on image search engines.
He then rose through the ranks at Arisem – a Thales company. Dessaigne began as a software developer and was then promoted to the position of chief research and development officer before becoming the CTO, a position which he stayed in for three and a half years until mid-2010. After gaining invaluable experience in these roles he moved to the French software giant Exalead where he was the director of product management and then VP of research and development until 2012.
Dessaigne left Exalead and co-founded Algolia where he is also the CEO. It is a hosted search platform that has unique differentiators for all essential aspects of search. The company has raised over $74 million in funding to date. The company is truly global with offices located in San Francisco, New York, Atlanta and London. It already powers the search functions of more than 4,000 customer websites including Twitch, Medium and Under Armour.
Dessaigne believes that culture is a growth driver within a company. He says the company’s core cultural values are grit, trust, care, candour, and humility. Algolia is yet another example of a successful SaaS company.
