What makes Nick Boyle a Global Shaker?
Nick Boyle is the founder and CEO of Lightsource BP, Europe’s largest developer of industrial-scale solar projects, based in Northern Ireland. Since its establishment in 2010, Lightsource has expanded its workforce from six employees to over 300, with offices in Belfast, San Francisco, Cairo, Melbourne and Mumbai.
In 2016 the company secured a lucrative 25-year contract with Belfast International Airport, connecting a 4.83-MWp solar farm to provide a third of the terminal’s electricity. The project received national acclaim for saving the airport £100,000 ($130,000) in energy costs in its first year of operations.
The company is now focusing on building solar projects in the US, India, Europe and the Middle East, following an investment of £149m ($200m) from major oil firm BP.
