As CEO of Songkick, Matt Jones has been touted as one of the youngest entrepreneurs in the UK to disrupt the music and ticketing industry. Jones began his career at the young age of seventeen when he founded a promotions company which spearheaded concerts and events for thousands of artists and some of the biggest names in the industry.
With such valuable experience behind him, Jones launched Crowdsurge in 2008, cementing his position as a go-to entrepreneur. Jones’ direct-to-fan ticketing platform grew at an unprecedented rate: the company rapidly became the leading brand in artist ticketing around the world, granting thousands of musicians a digital platform to engage their fan base directly. It was not until 2015, however, that Jones made a business decision which would ensure domination of the music and ticketing industry.
The ticketing guru announced a merger with the celebrated concert discovery app Songkick, combining the offerings and capabilities of both companies in a process which would lead to a product which is renowned today for its work as a transparent, pioneering technology partner to music artists. With the assistance of Songkick’s founder Ian Hogarth, the company utilizes technology which ensures musicians and performers can sell more tickets to fans through greater awareness and discovery, whilst reducing the number of tickets commonly sold to ‘scalpers’.
Holding offices in New York, London, Nashville and Los Angeles, Songkick has been established as the world’s leading artist and concert discovery platform, ticketing in more than 60 countries to over 15 million monthly visitors. Jones’ entrepreneurial efforts have earned him a place in the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, with over £16 million raised in the deal to merge his company with Songkick.
Although Songkick shut down its ticketing department in 2017, following the launch of a lawsuit with major ticket re-seller Ticketmaster, the company remains committed to artist discovery and Jones’ entrepreneurial efforts earned him a place on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list.
