What makes Marko Ahtisaari a Global Shaker?
Ahtisaari’s business career started at a new media company Satama Interactive in 1998 and he now heads The Sync Project. The company has created an app called Unwind which uses music and sound effects to relax the user.
The app is still in the early stages of development but users can participate in the research by downloading the app on their phone. Nokia’s former design chief, Ahtisaari aims to replace pharmaceutical drugs which are used as relaxants and tranquillizers. He also hopes to make the app useful for people who struggle with addiction and substance abuse issues.
The Sync Project is currently analysing more than 10 million playlists on Spotify tagged to a particular health-related word, like “relaxation”, to map the characteristics of the music — tempo, beat salience, timbre — that people are playing. They have also developed a Slack bot that delivers a personalised playlist to more than 400 teams around the world every morning.
