What makes Livia Cevolini a global shaker?
Livia Cevolini, one of the few female CEOs in the male-dominated automotive industry, has been dubbed the ‘female Elon Musk’. She is CEO of Italian manufacturer Energica Motor, which produces supersport electric motorbikes.
She founded the Modena-based company in 2014 as an offshoot of motorsport pioneers CRP Group, with which she had worked since 2002 – initially as Director of Marketing and Sales, overseeing the launch of a US subsidiary in 2008.
Energica is renowned for completing the first fast charge in Europe for one of its bikes, charging up to 80% of the battery in less than 20 minutes. Cevolini has overseen a partnership with ChargePoint to offer easy access to public charging locations on the ChargePoint network, and has expressed an interest in creating electric boats and other transportation systems.
Her career is a success story in a male-dominated industry: while a student, she worked in the Ferrari Formula 1 engineering pits and was often the only female engineer. She also estimates that 90% of classmates at the University of Modena were male.
