What makes Kelley Louise a Global Shaker?
Kelley Louise is Executive Director of the Impact Travel Alliance, a nonprofit organisation that champions sustainable travel.
Impact Travel Alliance educates travelers on how to spend their money mindfully so their experiences “empower locals and protect our environment.” The initiatives are based on education and advocacy around sustainable tourism, which the organisation stresses can be applied to any type of travel.
“We believe that by working to incorporate sustainability into all types of travel experiences, we have the potential to change our world through travel,” the website reads.
Louise describes herself as a travel entrepreneur passionate about storytelling and social good. She specialises in creative marketing and social media management for clients in travel and impact space.
She has a degree in Media and Culture from The New School and lives in Brooklyn. She also runs a travel and lifestyle blog, The Culture Collective.
Since its launch in 2015, the Impact Travel Alliance has hosted more than 250 local events around the world. There are local chapters in 25 cities around the world, including North America, Africa, Europe and Australasia.
An upcoming event is on what the organisation calls “The Perils of Undertourism,” and the pandemic’s effect on conservation efforts.
Most of the stories on the site are about travelling like a local in different places, or “supporting locals in an era of digital travel.”
