Joshua Hon is an industry leader in the world of two-wheeled transport, having spent 18 years as Vice President at Dahon, the world’s largest manufacturer of folding bikes, at which he claims to have rescued the company from bankruptcy. But it was his decision to set up Tern Bicycles in 2011 — alongside his mother Florence Shen — that propelled him into the bicycle mainstream.
Tern builds bikes “that defy expectations for what a folding bike can do”. It produces bikes for all sorts of occasions, including those that are electric, touring, large-wheeled or built for moving around with children.
Most recently, it launched BYB, ‘Bring Your Bike’, a new tri-folding bike that rolls along like a suitcase — aiming to make urban travel even easier, as hop-on hop-off commuters will be able to “trolley the bike with one hand while the other holds your coffee.”
Hon is also the Co-Founder of Eco-Cha Teas, a company that sells responsibly-sourced oolong tea from Taiwan.
