Joaquín Fernández de Piérola Marín is CEO of Abengoa, a global biotechnology company that specializes in the development of new technologies in producing biofuels and biochemicals, and promoting the sustainability of raw materials.
Under his leadership, Abengoa has transitioned into a multinational corporation. The company has invested heavily in researching sustainable technologies, including concentrated solar power, second-generation biofuels and desalination technologies to address water scarcity by making seawater drinkable.
Prior to joining Abengoa, Marin worked in Spanish governmental embassies in Riyadh and Baghdad, as well as for Befesa Agua. He holds a multitude of degrees from a range of institutions including the University of Zaragoza, the University of West England and the IESE Business School.
