What makes Jameela Jamil a Global Shaker?

Jameela Jamil is a well-loved British model and TV personality turned actress and activist that wants to change how women and marginalised groups see themselves and has launched “the revolution against shame.”

Born to Pakistani-British parents, her career in showbiz began when she left her job as an English teacher to become a presenter on T4 from 2009 to 2012.

Following a breast cancer scare in 2016, she moved to America to pursue her love of screenwriting. Soon after she auditioned for a role in Michael Schur’s Netflix original, The Good Place which has received critical acclaim, being nominated for a Golden Globe.

Throughout her career in the spotlight, she has been involved in a number of initiatives to boost awareness of ‘the body positivity movement.’

In March 2018, Jameela launched the Instagram account i-Weigh after coming across a photo of the Kardashian sisters detailing each of their weights.

“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. A group shot of grown women with their respective weights posted across each of their bodies, and the post asking what we think of their weights and then asking its followers, “What do you weigh?”

The  I Weigh account is now close to reaching a million followers and the bio states that the movement is about “radical inclusivity so that no one feels alone.”

Speaking during the Create & Cultivate Desert Pop Up at the 2019 Coachella Music Festival, she said: “I was told I was too old, too fat, and too ethnic for Hollywood, but I’m here today.

For her work to fight fat shaming and increasing inclusivity, Jameela is receiving global recognition and was named Stylist Magazine’s Most Remarkable Woman of 2019
