Takeuchi founded GoCardless alongside Tom Blomfield of Monzo and Matt Robinson. The tech start-up is backed by huge players like Burbridge’s Passion and Paul Graham’s Y Combinator. Takeuchi graduated from Oxford University in Mathematics, set up his company and soon after joined the start-up accelerator Y Combinator.
The purpose of GoCardless is to make it easier for small businesses to accept direct debit. 99.3% of private sector businesses within the UK are small businesses and 99.9% are small or medium-sized businesses, so it is clear he has a huge target market within the country alone.
Hiroki suffered a serious injury in September of 2016 that left him paralysed from the chest down, the first thing he did when he woke up in hospital was ask to see his business partner Matt Robinson to ensure the future of the company was safe.
