What makes Guillaume Fourdinier a Global Shaker?

Son of a farmer, Guillaume Fourdinier is the co-founder and CEO of Agricool, whose mission is to build a sustainable food system by growing local, pesticide-free fruits and vegetables for everyone. Their solution can only be described as urban farming.

They grow their crops inside shipping containers in the heart of Paris and use no pestisides, no GMO and 90 percent less water than those farmed the conventional way. Also being based within the city, no transport is required further reducing their carbon footprint.

Founded in 2015 Agricool has already raised $13.4 million in funding in two venture rounds (as of May 2018).

With cities becoming increasingly populated it has become more difficult to provide high-quality food to those living in these densely-populated areas and that is what Agricool aims to remedy. The start-up has focused on strawberries, to begin with, but hopes to move on to other crops soon. Fourdinier says “our challenge is to find an industrial model that lets us grow quickly from 1 to 1,000 containers.”
