What makes Georgina Cooper a Global Shaker?
After graduating from university in 2007 with a fashion degree, British entrepreneur Georgina Cooper entered the real world with a tiny bank balance and a passion for promoting and selling clothes. When financial times were tough for Georgina and her two fashion-conscious sisters, the trio would often visit the Portobello market to hunt for the latest bargains on garments, shoes and accessories.
The fashionista frequently received compliments and praise for her Portobello finds, leading to eventual request from her friends to select and purchase things for them when they couldn’t get down to the market themselves. Cooper found that the vast majority of Portobello designers didn’t sell online, with the only way of purchasing their products involved personally visiting the market.
It was this lack of convenience combined with a deep appreciation for the Portobello market which prompted Cooper and her two sisters to establish pretaportabello.com, the leading online fashion market which promotes and sells clothes, shoes, accessories and jewellery from new, undiscovered talent in the fashion industry. With Cooper sight’s quickly broadening to include selections from other notable markets such as Brick Lane, Camden and Spitalfields, pretaportobello.com rapidly evolved into a site which enables customers from all over the world to shop at the market, at any time, any day of the week – with garments delivered straight to their door.
The adaptable, ready-to-go e-commerce platform has received significant attention from the fashion industry, with the site going on-sale for an undisclosed amount in recent months.
