As CEO, Francesco Starace has led Enel, one of Italy’s leading energy suppliers, during a key period of liberalisation towards renewables in the country.
In 2015, former United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki Moon appointed Starace to the UN Global Compact, an initiative to encourage businesses to adopt sustainable and socially-responsible policies.
From 2008 – 2014, he was CEO of Enel Green Power, helping establish the subsidiary as one of the leading global players in the renewable energy sector, generating 29 billion kWh from 750 plants in 16 countries in Europe and the Americas.
Starace graduated with a degree in Nuclear Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Milan, later working as a safety analyst at the nuclear power plants of NIRA Ansaldo. He has held several managerial positions at SAE SADELMI, ABB Combustion Engineering Italy and Alstom Power.
