What makes Florina Gavriel & Rachel Mansur Global Shakers?

Thirty-somethings Floriana Gavriel & Rachel Mansur met in 2010 at a concert in Los Angeles. Mansur had graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Textiles while Gavriel gained her BFA in Fashion Design at the University of the Arts Bremen in Germany. The two realised they “shared a lot aesthetically”, and before long were not only firm friends but also business partners.

They set up accessories label Mansur Gavriel together, which became responsible for creating in 2012 an ‘It’ bucket bag, the first of many which fly off the shelves in boutiques such as Barney’s and Bergdorf. The black-Flamma bucket bag is still its top seller, and in a price range between $400 and $1,000, their bags are much more affordable than most of the big-name luxury brands. The pair also has two of their own Mansur Gavriel stores in New York, where they are based and more recent one in Los Angeles.

In 2015, Mansur Gavriel received the Council of Fashion Designers of America Swarovski Award for Accessory Design, as well as the 2016 Accessory Designer of the Year Award.
