Dr. Eric Risser is the founder and CTO of Artomatix, a Dublin-based software firm that has created the world’s first 3D art engine. The company is disrupting the global 3D industry by using leading AI technology to create enveloping worlds at a rate that 3D artists cannot match.
3D artists will still be crucial to the process, but this technology will allow them to use his algorithm to automate the repetitive and mundane tasks they would usually have to undertake. Artists can input various characters and models into Artomatix and the software will extrapolate a huge number of them based on the data. The technology will allow developers to keep up with the demands of the booming 3D content market which includes films, games, and industrial design.
“I spent 10 years watching this community and seeing this problem grow exponentially,” he explained in an interview with Silicon Republic. “The gaming industry was losing its middle class and the demand for high-quality graphics was going up. Smaller companies were being acquired or going out of business.”
The company closed a €2.1 million seed round with investors in March 2017.
Dr. Risser is a pioneer in the combined field of AI and computer graphics. He has a master’s degree from Columbia University and a PhD from the Trinity College in Dublin, both in computer science. He is also a keen snowboarder.
