What makes Emilio Azcárraga Jean a Global Shaker?

In 1997, at just 29 years of age, Emilio Azcárraga Jean was named President and CEO of major Mexican multimedia company Televisa. Under his 20 years in charge, content produced by the company is seen in more than 70 countries. Televisa has become the second-largest media conglomerate in Latin America, behind Grupo Globo, and has become the option of choice for the 50 million Spanish speakers in the US, through an exclusive contract with Univision.

In 2017, the entrepreneur announced he would move into a new role as Chairman of the company, passing operational control of the company over to Bernardo Gómez Martinez, previously president of the Mexican National Chamber of Radio and Television Industry, and Alfonso de Angoitia, as the group’s Executive Vice Presidents. These co-CEOs took responsibility for all published content in the news department, including newscasts, political satire, and anchors, and the finances of the company respectively.

However, Azcárraga Jean, who counts 1.2m followers on Twitter, has retained direct control over Televisa’s football department – and promises to continue to further the company’s long-term development in his new role.
