Belgian civil servant Didier Seeuws was the first official Brexit appointee entrusted with heading the Council’s Task Force – merely days after the referendum.
He has spent his career in and around the European Council, having worked for former European Council President Herman van Rompuy, and, coincidentally, European Parliament Brexit negotiator Guy Verhofstadt.
Mr Seeuws is highly respected in the institutions as an intelligent and pragmatic operator, but has little visibility outside the Brussels bubble – a state of affairs that is unlikely to change, as Donald Tusk remains in the public eye.
