What makes David Thomson a Global Shaker?

David Thomson and his family control a media and publishing empire founded by his grandfather, Roy Thomson. David currently serves as Chairman of Thomson Reuters, the family’s biggest holding.

Styled as the ‘Answer Company’, providing expert insight across fields including law, tax, Government and media, Thomson Reuters runs one of the biggest newswires in the world – giving newspapers and magazines of all sizes and language environments the right to publish over two million unique stories every year.

The Thomson empire also owns the Toronto-based Globe and Mail newspapers, and holds a stake in telecom giant Bell Canada, which provides mobile and internet coverage to a significant proportion of Canada.

A decade ago David orchestrated the merger between Reuters News and Thomson Corp. Although the company has now decided to sell the financial data segment of Thomson Reuters to Blackstone, an American asset management firm, it will retain both the accounting and legal data divisions and the prestigious news service.
