With over 200 stores across Japan, China and the UK, Cath Kidston MBE oversees one of Europe’s most recognisable brands. The multinational furniture and clothing chain is instantly recognised by its brightly-coloured and floral pinks, with modern takes on classic prints and styles. From a single shop selling tea towels and re-touched furniture to an international empire spanning across Europe and Asia, it is clear why Kidston was awarded an MBE for services to business in 2012.
The former window dresser and Laura Ashley model gathered years of experience as an antique fabric dealer before eventually landing a position in the employment of interior designer and London socialite, Nicky Haslam. Kidston’s experiences propelled her on the path towards opening her first store, with the entrepreneur eventually selling all of her shares in the company to TA Associates for a reported £250m.
Cath Kidston’s kitsch, English vibe has granted the company immense success across the world, and has released several products in collaboration with other leading brands such as Tescos, Nokia and Apple.
