What makes Bill Jones a Global Shaker?

Bill Jones – a second-generation cattle rancher and former Republican Leader of the California Assembly – is the co-founder and Chairman of Pacific Ethanol, one of the leading producers of low carbon fuels in the US. The company’s rise was assured with a $84 million cash injection from Microsoft founder Bill Gates.

“Ethanol helps alleviate the need for imported oil and decreases our energy dependence”.

The California State University graduate’s switch to renewable fuels follows a long and successful career in politics: Jones spent 12 years as an elected representative at the California Assembly, including two years as Republican Leader, and was elected Secretary of State of California in 1994 — a position he held for the maximum of two terms until January 2003.
