Engineer and educator Beatrice Ionascu has long been committed to opening up the worlds of science and technology to women of all ages and removing the overwhelming dominance of men among computer science professionals.
After time spent interning and researching at major technology companies, including Microsoft and Spotify, Ionascu joined up with long-time collaborators Dora Palfi and Alexa Edström to co-found imagiLabs. Her company, which creates fun and wearable gadgets to spark an interest in coding among teenage girls, has just launched a Kickstarter campaign for its first product, imagiCharm, a fashion accessory that can be attached to clothing and teaches users to become proficient in the real programming language of Python.
imagiLabs has received the support of an incubation programme run by communications specialists Ericsson, and another incubation lab in Chile.
Ionascu holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from New York University Abu Dhabi, and a Master’s Degree in Machine Learning from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology.
